We joined the energy efficiency agreement of the business sector in the fall of 2022 to find new ways to save energy in our operations. We are aiming for a 7.5 percent reduction in our energy consumption by the end of the energy efficiency agreement period, which runs until 2025.
The most energy in Piako’s operations is consumed in heating the facilities. Production machines and equipment, such as sheet cutting machines and the compressed air system, come in a close second in energy consumption. Energy efficiency is being sought through both larger and smaller savings measures. Replacing old lighting with more energy-efficient LED technology and listening for possible leaks in the compressed air system during quiet times in the production facilities are examples of small actions that together form larger streams.

Project Duration: 03/2023 – 12/2025
The goal of the Productivity 2025 project is to develop Piako’s ability to manufacture and export a new product group, long HCT trailers for heavy vehicles, by starting new business operations and increasing internal expertise within the company. The project focuses on developing business and production processes and investing in the production facilities, machinery, and equipment required for the new business. The project also aims to enhance Piako’s readiness for internationalization. As a result of the project, new business operations and the serial production of the new product group will be initiated. Piako’s human resources will be developed to improve expertise in new business areas, increase production productivity, and support international growth. The project will impact employment in the company’s operating area and help reduce the climate impact of the transportation industry by increasing the availability of HCT transport solutions in the market.
The project receives support from the European Union’s Regional Development Fund.

The HCT Trailer Project aims to develop smarter, more environmentally friendly, and more cost-effective transportation solutions over the lifecycle. The HCT Trailer project consists of investigative measures focused on developing the manufacturability of a new product group for Piako: modular HCT trailers. The project also includes a study on internationalization. The outcomes of the project will include a feasibility study on the modularity of the trailer, a study on the manufacturability of the trailer, prototypes of component parts, and a market analysis of the Scandinavian trailer market.
